What-are-the-Characteristics-of-a-Democracy.jpg

Hello guys, how are you doing? Today is election day!

The elections are of extreme importance in the academic field. They are the moment when we speak up, show all the things we can possibly achieve as students, use our determination to pursue our rights and duties as academics. They are also an opportunity to pay attention to what needs to be changed, to be improved, what needs supervision, or, even, what needs to be created and developed to benefit the lives of the academics in the university context.

I'm here this week to remind you of the importance of voting. It is a way for us to exercise our democracy, our power as a nation and students; besides this, it is at this moment that we decide what group will represent us better. The importance of getting informed about the candidates is just as essential, because only then we can understand their propositions and decide which one can help us better, which one has the best intentions.

So to start, we have the propositions from the first student union: Chapa 1

• Improve DCE space  such as, lighting, general painting, new arts, property renovations, etc.

• Promote the integration of students through events, conversation clubs, proposals from specialized departments.

• Create an university pantry, with a refrigerator and microwave for students.

• Create strategies that contribute to students who need help establishing in and out the university.

• Promote fundraising events (bingo, karaoke, raffles...)

• Create a transparency portal, active throughout the student union tenure.

And we also have the Chapa Real.

• Revitalization of locations within the campus, such as: the computer room in the library, the museum, the photocopier, R.U, DCE, etc.

• Make university students have voice and know their rights within the campus, making it more transparent.

• Fight all types of prejudice both on and off campus.

• Bring important topics, lectures, and conversation circles about social matters.

• Create new projects, such as: dance classes, music classes, theater classes, podcast, among others.

• Scavenger hunts, events and fundraising for charity donations

• Support for people coming out of town to settle on campus

• Improvement of the laboratories of each course and mainly in the IT ones.

• Welcome post-pandemic students who have not been able to adapt to the university.

To say goodbye, don't forget to always keep yourself informed, so that you can make the best decision for your own future, inside and outside the university, because by choosing the best for you and for the students, you will be, along with that, taking these choices for life.
