LITERARY LITERACY

Hi, guys! In our edition today we will talk about the extension project Literary Literacy: from theory to practice, by Professor Leila Barros.

Professor Leila told us that the idea for the project came from her concern about teaching literature in English classes in basic education, an important part of the language that is not addressed as it is in other languages.
​
The project's main objectives are to show how society has new ways of expressing culture, such as cyber culture and cyber literature, leading people to reflect on these genres, understanding more precisely what these genres are and how they interact with the new generation, new readers who need more interactive and interesting stories.
Professor Leila also points out the need for teachers to know these new genres and be able to establish relationships with their respective authors, thus promoting an end to the stereotype of literature as something dead, stable and lifeless, showing students that it is possible to work literature in a modern and fun way!

During the meetings that take place on Thursdays from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, these new genres of cyber literature and cyber culture are discussed. Professor Leila also told us about the desire to produce an e-book with these genres and didactic sequences that involve and can be applied in classrooms!

The 4th year student João Vitor Montanini gave us a testimonial about his participation in the project. He said: “I think it's cool that it's a space for us to discuss literature that goes beyond the canonical. We are always exploring different literary strands and with a less straight approach. We have a very limited understanding of what literature is, and this is due to the fact that whenever we study about this topic, it usually involves the classics and those that are prestigious all the time. I would never have imagined that a text I found in my Instagram feed could be considered literature and that, behind it, there is such a great possibility to study and go further".
